#FollowYourPhone

Updated: Apr 30, 2021

Think of all the places you set your phone down. Phones are ingrained in our everyday lives and we take them with us everywhere we go. Habitually, we set our phones down on counters, toilets, and bar tops without thinking of the germs we are picking up.

I did the #followyourphone experiment and I was surprised by what I uncovered. Today, April 21, I made a conscious effort to detail the places I put my phone. Currently, I am still in quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic, but even while being at home, my phone’s exposure was shocking.

This morning when I woke up I immediately brought my phone into bed with me. Throughout the day, I was working from home but meanwhile I went to the bathroom three times and the kitchen once to make breakfast. Each time I went to the bathroom I would use it, place it on the bathroom counter, wash my hands and grab it on my way out. While in the kitchen, I had it on the counter next to where I was preparing food. For lunch, I got takeout food and I brought my phone into the restaurant with me. When I ate my togo food in my backyard for lunch I set it on our outdoor fireplace. To end the day, I went for a long run with my phone.

This is a small glimpse into the everyday life of a phone during a time when I hardly leave the house. Thinking back to when I was at college and had a packed schedule, the places my phone would go in one day is a scary.

I would take my phone to every classroom and set it on my desk without thinking of the hundreds of other students who also use the same desk. I would take it with me to the bathroom between classes, and even set it on the toilet paper holder when I needed to be hands-free. I would take it to the gym with me and set it on the gym floor when I was working out . Once a week, it would go to the gas station and grocery store with me. The most disgusting of them all is it would go to college bars and fraternity parties with me on the weekends. (I mean have you seen the insides of these places??) My phone would travel with me everywhere and I would not even think about cleaning it once.

In quarantine or not, one thing stays the same. After a long day of exposing my phone on germ infested surfaces I would crawl into bed with it at night. Literally sleeping with germs.

I challenge you to#followyourphone. You will be surprised by the results and you will see not only your desire to use Byte Wipes but the need to.
