On July 10, our very own co-founder, Kayla Wells, had the pleasure of being interviewed by Heidi Parker of small-business, Vai Athletica. Heidi asked Kayla a multitude of questions about the process of starting Byte Wipes, and Kayla was able to give some insight into the operation of bringing this fantastic idea into fruition. If you haven’t had the chance to check out the interview, this blog will go over a few of the highlights.
Question 1: How did you come up with this amazing creation?
Kayla’s Response: “My dad came up with the idea right about when everything with COVID was starting to gear up. He realized that everyone was in such a rush to sanitize their hands and so many other things, but he thought that they were missing a huge puzzle piece of things that carry a lot of germs— phones. After researching how dirty phones really are, he started making a prototype, which was just an Altoids container with makeup wipes and some house cleaner. I was still up at school, and he sent me a picture, and I said, ‘I love this— let’s do it!’”
Question 2: How long did it take for you to produce the final product?
Kayla’s Response: “Between 6 to 8 weeks. In that time, when I knew we were getting closer, that’s when I started to build the website, hired someone to do graphic design for us, and started to get social media handles. When we hit it perfectly, it was probably seven to eight weeks later because we had to find the right container, having the right size, and making sure it doesn’t leak and things like that. Then we got the wipes from a different supplier. They had to have the right dimensions, and we wanted to make sure we could fit enough in each container. The container came first, then the wipes, then our cleaning solution.”
Question 3: Share some positive no`tes about the company!
Kayla’s Response: “With starting my first company, I wanted to keep the community and the greater good in mind. So some of our initiatives are that Byte Wipes are entirely manufactured and produced in the United States. Though it may have taken a little bit longer to find those suppliers domestically and it maybe have been a little more expensive, keeping this a domestic product was really important to us when developing our product.”
